I hope your new year is off to a terrific start! Many of us are glad to put 2011 behind us and are looking forward to new challenges in 2012. As you plan the forthcoming year, please be sure to list the ESA Convention in San Antonio, Texas, April 29th to May 5th as a necessity. We have some seminars in place that will be led by some of your peers. It is always exciting to have fellow members show us how they do it. We find this is the best way to explore new avenues in your own business. Stay tuned for more information about each of these.

Many members have expressed interest in San Antonio as a convention site over the years. Each time we investigated this town, it didn’t quite fit our budget — until now. We will be staying at the historic Menger Hotel. It is the oldest continually operating hotel west of the Mississippi. The Menger Bar is one of the top 10 most historic bars in the US with its dark cherry wood paneling and French beveled mirrors patterned after London’s House of Lord’s Pub. If only the walls could talk as this was the place Teddy Roosevelt organized his Rough Riders. You will want to be sure to add your name to the list of people who have stayed at this hotel including my personal favorite, Babe Ruth. The hotel location is great in that it is right across the street from the Alamo. On the other side is the three story RiverCenter Mall complete with restaurants, shopping, movie theater and comedy club. It is also your connection to the RiverWalk shops, restaurants and boat rides. With our downtown location, you are within walking distance of many sites, or hop on one of their convenient trolleys for a more extensive tour of San Antonio.

Be sure to plan your trip to include Monday, April 30th as we will be traveling to Fredericksburg for an optional trip on that day. This is an historic old German town complete with a variety of old and new shops, including some fantastic antique shops, as well as the Museum of the Pacific War. It is definitely a history lesson.

Now is the time to watch for deals on airfare to San Antonio. The airlines have been edging up the cost of flying but there are deals to be had so watch for them. And call another member when you find a deal and encourage them to attend as well. Or even if you don’t find the deal you are looking for you should call another member and invite them to attend with you. We can all benefit from increased attendance.

See you in San Antonio!
