Like you, we at Aggressive Hydraulics are committed to hard work. However, that’s not to say that we don’t like to play hard as well. One of the fun things we get to do is sponsor the Charlotte Checkers, an American Hockey League (AHL) team. The Checkers work hard and play hard, and we enjoy being able to support their success.

Believe it or not, it was somewhat accidental that the Checkers ended up in Charlotte. The Eastern Hockey League’s Baltimore Clippers lost their hockey rink to a fire in the middle of the season, and Charlotte became the team’s temporary home.

The response to hockey in Charlotte was overwhelming. The city embraced the team and the sport, and it wasn’t long before the Baltimore Clippers became the Charlotte Clippers. In the late 1950s, the Clippers became the Charlotte Checkers. The Checkers stayed in Charlotte until 1977, when their hockey league folded. After a fifteen year absence, they returned to Charlotte in 1992 and have been a part of the sports scene in the city ever since. The Checkers organization remains the oldest professional team still in existence in the area today.

Today, the Checkers are a part of the AHL, and have been a part of the development of many professional players. The Checkers are the top affiliate of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, and over 850 NHL games have been played by former Checkers players.

The Checkers won the AHL’s Excellence in Community Service award three times in their first five seasons (2011, 2014, and 2015). In addition, player Kyle Hagel won the AHL Man of the Year award in the 2014-2015 season.

AHL Charlotte Checkers

Aggressive Hydraulics is proud to partner with the Charlotte Checkers, and we’re excited to see what the 2016-2017 season has in store for them. On the surface, it may seem that hockey and hydraulics don’t have much in common, but we share with the Charlotte Checkers a commitment to excellence in all we do. The Checkers give 100% in every game, and we give 100% to every customer.

“We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with national and regional organizations. It allows us the opportunity to provide a major league experience in a major league sports town at a minor league price. The success of our marketing and activation programs would not be possible without the support of our partners. They allow us the opportunity to increase our footprint in a very sports saturated community” said Christopher Beckwith, Director of Business Development for Aggressive Hydraulics.
