When you’re using and maintaining heavy equipment, having the right part makes all the difference. Having purpose built custom hydraulic cylinders will go a long way in extending the life of your product, but it’s also important to understand the right cylinder type for your equipment.

Aggressive Hydraulics designs, manufactures, and repairs both welded rod cylinders and telescopic cylinders. What is the difference? Let’s take a look.

For many types of machinery, a welded rod cylinder has a reach that is long enough to perform the required function. For equipment where a longer reach is required, a telescopic cylinder does what a welded rod can’t. Its ability for longer extension makes it perfect for dump trucks, garbage trucks, and other heavy duty construction equipment.

How does it work? When retracted, a telescopic cylinder is only a fraction of its total extended length. As it works, it extends (like a telescope) out to its full length, making maximum equipment function possible. For example, a dump truck is able to empty its load and have its dump body return to a horizontal position due to the work of a telescopic cylinder.

There are two types of telescopic cylinders, single-acting and double-acting. Single-acting cylinders use hydraulic pressure to extend, and retract due to load from gravity or some other external force. Double-acting cylinders use hydraulic force for both extension and retraction.

Aggressive Hydraulics is able to fully handle all of your custom telescopic cylinder needs, including:

  • Double and single acting telescopic cylinder manufacturing
  • Custom cylinders for new applications
  • Reverse engineering for existing applications
  • One piece or a thousand production capability
  • Replacement seals and parts for commercially-designed telescopics
  • Repair and refurbishing
